What we look for in editors

Experience in Academic Writing

Given editors will be expected to read, comment, and review submissions, academic experience is required.

Teamwork and Leadership

Each editor will work in a team of up to 3 people, so teamwork and leadership are valued in editors.

In-depth
Knowledge

As an interdisciplinary journal, THSJ seeks the most qualified editors, regardless of specific fields.

Role Of an Editor

Expectations:

  • You have the job of deciding which papers meet the publication standards of THSJ

An Editor's Job:

  • Editors first conduct a desk review to ensure anonymity.

  • They immediately reject papers with excessive grammatical errors, formatting issues, inappropriate topics, plagiarism, or incorrect information.

  • Submissions are then sorted into Google Drive folders.

  • Any editor can perform a desk review for any manuscript, as this process involves ensuring anonymity and categorizing the paper by topic and does not require field-specific knowledge.

  • After the desk review, editors are divided into committees of three based on their expertise.

  • An editor with multiple fields of expertise may join more than one committee simultaneously.

  • Each committee is assigned manuscripts that its members have not previously reviewed during the desk review proportional to the number of total submissions.

  • Editors are allowed to submit papers, though the Editor-in-Chief will make sure an editor does not review their own paper. For this reason, the Editor-in-Chief may not submit a paper.

  • Then, members sort papers into ones that will be accepted immediately, papers that need some revision, and papers that will simply be rejected.

  • Editors must provide comments on papers sent back for revision.

  • In the second review round, editors are assigned new papers to accept or reject.

  • The Editor-in-Chief reviews the rationale for each decision before finalizing it.
